KY Foundation has purchased a building and plot at Metallimiehenkuja 10, Espoo. It will become the centre of KY’s operations. The building will be renovated to meet KY’s needs, including an event space, office facilities, member spaces and a sauna. The renovation is expected to be completed by early 2027. Saha will remain in KY’s use for the time being, even after moving into the new building.
This acquisition marks a significant milestone in KY’s journey to establish its permanent home in Otaniemi and strengthen its role within the Aalto community. For over 70 years, KY used to have its own building in the heart of Helsinki. In 2020, the Representative Council decided to sell that property. After relocating to Otaniemi, KY has been looking for permanent space solutions while operating from temporary facilities. Due to the Student Centre Project unfortunately being discontinued last year, KY started its initiative towards this current solution.
"We are extremely pleased that we have finally acquired permanent footing in Otaniemi. While the building is not ready as such, we have the plans to make it suitable for KY's needs.
