Communications Coordinator's blog

Hey you!  It’s your favorite influencer here or KY’s Communications Coordinator more officially.

When people hear the title “Communications Coordinator,” they usually imagine something like posting on Instagram, writing Monday Mail, and occasionally opening Canva to design some banners. And to be fair, those things are definitely part of the job. But behind the scenes, the role is a lot more than it might seem from the outside.

My KY journey started only last spring when I was encouraged to apply to the KY office. Coming from Mikkeli, I honestly felt a bit nervous. But there was no reason to feel that way. I had the warmest welcome to the KY community here in Otaniemi and it’s all because of my fellow employees, KY Board, and my dear Master’s Committee along with all the other people that I’ve met during these past months. All these people are also the reason why I would encourage each and everyone of you to apply to the KY Office. There is no other work place with an environment like this and I’ve had the absolute best time here at KY. While nothing beats the Mikkeli Spirit™, I would still say that KY Spirit comes pretty close ;)

While the community and atmosphere are definitely the highlight of working at KY, I should probably also mention something about the actual job itself.

As I mentioned, the job does include social media management, being responsible for different KY publications, and some occasional design work. However, my job also consists of daily tasks like answering people’s messages on Telegram and making sure that everyone is aware of how we do communications at KY. I’m also responsible of KY’s merch inventory (big things coming soon 🤫), I provide assistance for our members as one of the service advisors, and I’m the Vice Chair of Master’s Committee. In addition, I’m responsible for our camera equipment and some budgeting regarding MC and communication’s tools and marketing.

Every day at the office looks different and that’s why this job requires someone with strong organized working skills as well as ability to prioritize. Not to forget, attention to detail and creativity. It’s also important to be able to ask for help when needed. Not everything can be managed alone and it’s important to realize your own limits.

So if you’re looking for a job that combines creativity, community, a little bit of organized chaos, and a lot of Telegram notifications, the KY Communications Coordinator role might just be for you. And who knows… maybe next year it’ll be your turn to be the one sending Monday Mail.

If you have any questions regarding the Communications Coordinator role, feel free to slide to my DM’s <3
