I was a mursu when I applied to the KY Office. I had originally planned to apply for part time IT jobs alongside my studies when the position of IT Coordinator opened. Back then I did not quite understand how many different things KY actually does. Nevertheless, I applied and ended up getting the job.
Applying to the KY Office has definitely been one of the best decisions I have made during my studies. I have had the chance to meet many amazing new people and learn a huge amount about IT. In my opinion, KY is a great place to try out new ideas, since you get to work with smart, motivated, and creative people.
The IT Coordinator role has a wide range of responsibilities, but do not worry because you do not need to know everything in advance. In fact, I think continuous learning is one of the things that keeps the job interesting. Perhaps one of the most important skills is the ability to find information about things you do not yet know very well.
KY is also a very flexible workplace, and it is easy to combine the job with studies and other student life activities. At times, however, the work can be more intensive, especially during larger projects. Sometimes this can mean crawling under the Saha’s stage to fix cables so that the events can take place.
I have personally really enjoyed working as an IT Coordinator, so much that I decided to continue for a second year. The variety of the work is one of the things that makes the role interesting. Whether we are figuring out what is wrong at BMK with the Premises Sector or helping MC with their events, every day at the KY Office looks a little different in a fun way.
I am happy to answer any questions if you are interested or would simply like to talk about the work of an IT Coordinator.
