Hello! I’m Niklas, and during this past year, I’ve been on the KY Board responsible for sports & wellbeing, associations and sustainability. In this blog post, I’ll go over some of the most memorable experiences I’ve had and why I’d wholeheartedly recommend applying for the KY board!
First off, this year wasn’t something I had planned long in advance. The decision to run for the board was made somewhat on a whim, yet I have never looked back since. You don’t need to feel like you were made for this!
I’ve always felt like I want to make the most out of my student times while I’m here. Being on the KY Board definitely fulfills that goal, and during this year alone I’m sure I’ve made enough memories to last a lifetime. Whether it’s our board’s trip to Bergen, the sports & wellbeing committee’s spring cottage trip to Estonia or one of the Annual Balls I’ve gotten to represent KY in, there’s truly too many unforgettable moments to recall.
Being responsible for KY’s associations has really let me into the heart of what KY is all about. The diversity, passion and creativity our community holds inside it is easily overlooked. I’ve gotten the chance to sit down with representatives from all of our associations and discuss plans, both on the level of KY and each individual club. Learning the ins and outs of our association field lets you see and appreciate our community in a whole new light.
It would be tough to describe what a normal day in the life of a board member is like, since so much can change in a week, let alone a year. And that’s part of what makes this year so special! Work hardly gets repetitive, and there are always new tasks popping up that need to be solved. Especially working as a committee chair, you get a great mix of practical, boots-on-the-ground work along with more hands-off, ideological work.
If you’re interested in hearing more about my responsibilities on the board (or about board work in general!), you can always reach out to me by mail or via Telegram. I’m always down to sit down for a lunch or a cup of coffee!
