Hey everyone! My name is Otava Tuomi, and for the past year, I’ve had the honour of being part of the KY Board. In this blog post, I’ll tell you more about my responsibilities on the board and why you should consider applying to become the next person to plan the new KY Building!
One thing I’ve learned is that there are no two days that are the same in the KY Office. One morning, you might find yourself in Tuomela attending routine weekly meetings, and the next, exploring the on-site of the new KY Building. KY is truly a one-of-a-kind working environment where you are never alone. Alongside everyone’s own responsibilities, the office and the board work together, and help is always available. All in all, the position on the board allows you to influence what KY is and what it can become.
As Vice Chair of the Board, I have been part of the main sector, participating in the big-scheme planning of KY. In addition to an increasing number of meetings, I have also had the opportunity to partake in the fun side: planning activities for the office and the board! Being the finance responsible means that I am in charge of how the board uses the money allocated for it in the budget. Additionally, the finance responsible participates in the budget planning process with the employees.
This year, one of KY’s main focus areas has been premises, both keeping our current spaces functional and shaping the future home of Kylteris. At the beginning of the year, I was heavily involved with the KY Foundation in the process of acquiring the new KY Building. Throughout the year, I have been deeply involved in designing the new home of KY. With professionals, we’ve been actively sketching floor layouts and fine-tuning how the spaces will function and look. For me, this passion project has been a learning experience unlike anything else. The next premises responsible will have the amazing chance to continue this journey and see the dream of a new KY Building become real.
The KY Board does not require you to be an expert in anything. What you need is curiosity, motivation, and a desire to make KY better than ever. The year is an unimaginable journey that gives you more than you could ever imagine.
