Board Member Thomas' Blog

Look.

If you had one shot.

Or one opportunity.

To seize everything you ever wanted.

In one moment.

Would you capture it?

Or just let it slip?

Hi, my name is Thomas. In the KY Board, I have been responsible for Sports & Wellbeing, Academic Affairs and Internationality. Most of my days have been spent taking care of LiHy and attending meetings with the university, in addition to the tasks that all KY members have. At the stakeholder meetings, my priority has been student’s wellbeing and advocating for a less stressful student life. My favorite part of the Academic Affairs sector has been the Teaching Competence Assessment Committee. There, I have been in the role of a student representative evaluating teachers and professors alongside school staff, which has taught me a lot.

Also, one major thing I have been responsible for at the office is doing pranks. That has been my way of contributing to the already warm and cozy atmosphere of Espilä.

Instead of talking about my year and how it has been overall, I thought I would just pinpoint a few good examples of what my role in the KY Board has given me, so here are my favorite memories:

  • In March, we had LiHy’s first cottage trip, which was held in Estonia. We took a boat down south and spent two nights at a renovated farm. That’s where the “LiHy game” was born.
  • In April, we traveled to Bergen, where we met business school student associations’ boards from Nordic countries. My highlight was when we rode electric scooters in the Bergen night (the speed limit in Norway is 25 km/h!).
  • Straight after the Nordic Forum trip, we attended the Jäynä final with Emma, Otava and Aleksi. We had made a small prank at the AYY office, which earned us a place in the final. We didn’t win, but we all had an unforgettable time on stage.
  • In August, we had LiHy’s second cottage, and we went to a mökki in Tampere. There, we managed to fit about 9 people on one SUP-board.
  • After LiHy's cottage, I went to our KY board’s cottage in Porvoo. Our theme was stone age, so the shenanigans were pretty wild.
  • Later in August, we published LiHy’s music video, which was a project we worked on for a long time. Even though it’s not the most professional music video, the final product was one-of-a-kind and something we are proud of.

If you’re wondering whether or not you should apply for the KY board, take advice from Eminem’s wise words above.
