Hiii! <3
I’m Unna Jahnukainen and I’m the Vice President of KY this year. My responsibilities, besides being the VP, are Communications and Finance. When I look back at the past year, I never could’ve imagined what kind of a year I’ve had ahead.
Since I’ve had a truly one of a kind combination of responsibilities, the first part of the year went into orienting myself into what I really want to do on my different sectors. As the communications responsible, I originally wanted to create lottttt’s of content for KY’s channels, but decided after all to focus more on the strategic side and longterm vision. During this year, we have tried to improve our volunteer trainings, make our content more approachable & relaxed as well as improve our brandbook to look more like us and our members. I’m especially happy with the work I’ve done in collaboration with different sectors, like working with the creation of the Orientation Instagram account. I am leaving this year with the feeling that the basework has now been done for new and amazing things to come!
Despite serving as a Vice President in multiple different organizations before, I feel like this year has taught me the most about what it requires to be a good VP. Working with such different types of people at the office has been interesting and very instructive, but also fun. It has made me reflect on the type of leader I am in different dynamics, and the things I bring to the table in this position. My favorite things as the VP have been 1) Being always in the loop of what’s happening with large scale things 2) Getting to support our President when in need 3) Organizing fun recreational activities for our Board, like going to a waterpark, hiking in Nuuksio or a wine & paint session <3
If you know me, you would know that Finance was kind of a wild card to be one of my responsibilities this year. I’ve positively surprised myself with how I’ve fallen in love with budgeting and learned to use Procountor fluently, but also had the right amount of fun with this responsibility. The Finance responsibility has been quite straightforward, but it’s been a good combination with VP and given good balance to the creative work done in Communications.
This year has included many unforgettable moments, such as our trip to Bergen, going to (what feels like a hundred) different annual balls and even the mundane, such as the amount of fun we have had in our Morning Schools together. I can’t imagine spending this past year any other way, and I’m endlessly grateful for it.
If you have any questions about applying for my role(s) or in general, you can always send me a message @unnajahnukainen on TG.
Love,
Unna :)
